Something’s gotta give

by RosieRose on April 4, 2013

Hi guys,

It’s been a little while since my last post…

Have really been focusing lots on getting used to the new routine that 2013 has brought… Mr 5 has started school and I am now a school mum which is weird but nice .. I have also had lots more time to focus on Mr7 and all the therapy that he needs and this has been somewhat difficult as having less distractions and more focus on the hard stuff has been a biggie..

After much soul searching I am listening to my heart which says no more distractions… be present for the moment because I know that once a moment is gone you can never get it back…

I can finally say that whilst I love getting a bargain and always will I can’t spend money unless I need something..
The growing disatisfaction that I had in 2012 with excessive consumerism… is still quite very much a strong feeling..

I must confess though that in the past few months we have bought an outdoor couch, a new BBQ and half a house full of blinds… EEks  (all necessities you know). But I am ok with this… less spending on the uneccesary rubbish leaves more for the things I really want (not at all needs i know)

So perhaps I came to this place of blogging to get me to examine my world and what I need to do. I must admit in this my 40th year on the earth I have got to find a place where I feel comfortable where I feel like things can make sense.

I could continue blogging…. writing about my shift of direction….my new found “minimalism” but clearly if you do a google search you almost laugh at loud at how many frugal minimalists want to talk about their “journey”..
Ha Ha ….The clutter of minimalist blogs is ironic…

I have felt good writing and also at the same time too exposed… I can’t write without honesty and I can’t be honest without feeling exposed… so therefore I may continue to write but I will just write for me and that process I think is helpful too.

As always I continue to chat on line on the Decorating Forum… dispensing my “wise” ha ha decor and life advice… so come across and chat with us anytime…  I have an instagram feed (rosieroseig) too and at present it’s private but I usually approve all followers unless they are spammers..or compulsive followers.. The fb page will remain open too as that’s where I will share my too good to pass up bargains with you all and I think that will be just fine..

Hope your year is going well….. and that you are on a path that feels right to you…

I’ll leave you with my favourite Benjamin Button quote:

For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever
you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change
or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the
worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that
startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people
with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you
find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.

No Sale!!!

by RosieRose on January 20, 2013

“When old patterns are broken, new worlds emerge.” – Tuli Kupferberg

Wonder if anyone is thinking where is RosieRose lately?

Surely a girl who writes about bargains and shopping would have so much to write about especially with those post Christmas sales going on……

Meh!!! Sales schmales…………….. the thing is….. if I’m putting myself out here and these words are coming from me then I have to be authentic…….and for me to think about more possesions so close to the abundance of Christmas gives me a slightly uneasy feeling in my gut….. And I wonder if anyone else seeing people chomping at the bit to get to those post Christmas sales feels that quesyness too…

Sure I found myself in a shopping centre or two in this past month…………..nabbed quite a few giveaways too but instead of the thrill of getting a bargain I was left with the feeling that I was just playing a game that I wasn’t having fun with anymore…

I started thinking that maybe this is because “things” are just so easy to come by…….. so easy to “throwaway”, regardless of whether or not we can afford things we are easily able to “get” things….. Some reading this might disagree, these are supposedly hard economic times……. but in my observation most of those who can’t pay their utilities, are thousand of dollars in debt yet still carry iphones, ipads, and idon’t even know whatsies….
I don’t want to come across as all preachy because I have spent my life in the pursuit of wealth, of things, of surrounding myself with lovely and have been pretty stoked to have worked hard to get a beautiful home and beautiful things and provide for my family.

But I know that lately I am hearing more and more hearing that voice constantly inside me saying “……you have enough”…….. and I am freaking out when it is louder than the other familiar voice that says “….I’ll be happy when I get…………”

Total weirdness right???

But something is pulling me towards this path and not sure how that’s going to sit with a blog about bargain hunting………..in fact I am fairly certain that there will need to be some changes………whether I just “Keep calm and Shop On” or whether I start making changes remains to be seen.

Over the weekend I went to a bloggers meet and greet……… except it could be more described as a “smash and grab”. Major brands were spruking their wares and giving away shit and I dutifully loaded myself up with freebies and as I was leaving (thinking I have to cart all this shit and my sugared up 5 year old home on the train) I saw a blogger and her family politely refuse a bag of cream cheese because she didn’t need it and it had the most impact on me of the whole event. I have since stalked her blog and am yet to actually tell her the impact she had but I was like WOW I don’t need to take all this rubbish home……….

For those who are wondering yes I took it all home but have looked through it and have a pile of things to giveaway and plans to use the things that would be helpful to me…. hey its a process right?

So what’s planned for the blog for 2013…………maybe it should be re-titled “If she had more sense than dollars”…. Ha Ha…..

If I’ve lost you then that’s ok….. it would appear that I kinda have lost me to………….but the search continues….

Merry Christmas to you all

by RosieRose on December 22, 2012

Hello lovlies…….

Wishing you a Merry Christmas from RosieRose and family….

Spending some quiet family time here………….. cheap as chips and worth it’s weight in gold or a gazillion bargains me thinks……

Last few weeks have been frantic but this year with the last Friday before Christmas leaving a good 3-4 days before Christmas Day I think we have more time to get things done or in my case not do all that much..

Thursday night I did action a family Pre-Chrissie dinner…….

Here was the “tablescape”…. don’t you love that word..?
Makes me feel like an “Art-teest”….. instead of painting a “landscape” I paint pretty tables… that’s my thing….

I also  did some Christmas baking……

I made some hazelnut shortbread, rocky-road, brutti ma buoni and RosieRose’s  famous Chocolate balls (you read right)

christmasbaking

Then I packaged it all up pretty like and gave it away….(phew otherwise I would’ve scoffed the lot)

Here is a recipe for my easiest and famous Hazelnut shortbread…..
so easy and yummo…this recipe  easily makes 40 (keep them small)..

Rosie’s Hazelnut biscuits

120g (3/4 cup hazelnuts)
340g (2 &1/4 cups) SR Flour sifted
80g (1/2 cup) icing sugar mixture, sifted
250g unsalted cubed butter – chilled
1 tsp vanilla essence
1 tbs water
150g (1 cup) extra icing sugar mixture sifted for coating
1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees. Spread nuts over baking tray and toast for 10 mins or so, then put into clean tea-towel and rub together until most of the skins come off. Roughly chop these and set aside.
2. Increase oven to 200 degrees. Line 2 baking trays with baking paper.
3. Put, flour, icing sugar, butter and van.essence into food processor and process until resembles fine breadcrumbs. Then add in nuts and water.
4. Turn dough onto lightly floured surface and need sightly until smooth then roll into balls (only tablespoon size – they grow a bit) and place on lined trays.
5. Bake for 12-15 mins until light and golden.
Set trays aside until cool (don’t try to pick them up) once cool roll in extra icing sugar.

ENJOY and let me know if these become your new Christmas favourite….

Christmas Quickie

by RosieRose on December 14, 2012

A few weeks ago I was telling you all about my trip to the Bed Bath and Table Outlet  …….
and well um remember when I told you that I did not need any Christmas decorations…

In the words of The Terminator …………………”I LIED”

Well technically I didn’t actually go back to the same outlet but instead chose the outlet in Ivanhoe… Ha Ha…

I decided my tree needed a few pops of colour………

I found these bell candy canes for 50c each. I picked uo some green ones and some blue ones.

The original price was $5.95 each…….. Crazy town I know….

I also found myself buying a lovely silver wreath which I simply could not pass up for $5

silver wreath

I also stopped in at the Store Store…… and saw these cute gifts which would be great for the girl who has everything..

Firstly these silver jewellery trees were around $20-$30

And secondly for $14.95 these ring holders were really lovely.
If you don’t have a Store Store near you. Probably Howards storage would have them.

Ok well that’s a wrap…….

Here are some more of my Chritmas decos….
